A milestone of 20th century musical theatre, “The Threepenny Opera” serves up a deliciously dark satire of “respectable” society, with dashing thieves, brazen prostitutes and lingering melodies. “The Threepenny Opera” thrusts the audience into the seedy underworld of Mack the Knife, a dapper criminal, and his wry love affair with Polly Peachum. Weill’s acid harmonies and Brecht’s biting text created a revolutionary new musical theatre that inspired such subsequent hits as “Cabaret” and “Chicago.”
Giroux has been cast as Matthew. The Threepenny Opera, directed by Andrew Robinson (Dirty Harry, Hellraiser) will run October 26-29, 2006 at USC’s Bing Theatre. Show times are: Thur/Fri: 7:00 pm, Sat: 2:30 & 8:00 pm, and Sun: 2:30 pm.
